Being a variety seeker in smart electronic device a month back I ordered a smart wearable watch DM 98. I was excited to get my first wearable and passionately wanted to explore the value addition in daily life. After a month of consistent usage I am now able to comment of its usage.
Pros:-
- This robust android phone packed in small screen can incorporate SIM to make cellular calls and use internet over 3G(no 4G support)
- Quite handy if you don’t want to carry a smartphone but want to be connected to world through Skype, Twitter, Facebook, etc…(maximum 6 to 7 apps can be installed due to memory limitations)
- Watches are going out of fashion slowly since smartphones are born for productivity oriented users because it doesn’t make sense to have a dedicated time displaying device when you have smart phone for same. Smart watches have potential of doing reverse. You don’t need smart phone in pocket if you can wear them as same as any other attire for productivity and as fashion.
- Using Google Maps is quite handy on this 2.2 Inches device.
- This device can connect to bluetooth headphones, keyboard, etc.
- Being wearable this device can monitor your daily steps walked, sleep quality etc..
Cons:-
- 900mAh battery is bigger compared to other smartwatches but still you need to charge device every 6 hours if you are using it connected over 3G consistently. (This problem can be solved by a wearable power bank )

- Small keyboard will limit your typing speed to 1/10th of your original speed on smart phone even after prolonged practice. (This problem can be tacked up to an extent by installing #Gboard (a keyboard app from Google) which provides an important feature of swipe typing)
- Small screen it is always not easy to focus on small screen if you are reading some text or watching details of a photo.
- No 4G support will limit your multitasking and internet speed but I have used Skype video call without any interruption within Thailand and to India.
- If you are using latest technology Wifi router this watch may not display option to connect to that Wifi. This should be some technology limitation I haven’t understood yet.
- Camera is still low quality and can not be used for taking photos on social media posts.
My learnings:-
- Adjusting to limitations of small memory of device I learned to use chrome browser app as an alternative of as many apps as I can. #Chromeapp provides features like saving password , sending notifications and one click launch from book marks, etc… so you will experience almost same UX as using an app for same. So now I use Facebook , Instagram, Twitter, news apps on chrome browser app.
Future possibilities:-
- Better voice commands support will limit the need of typing or even touching the small screen. This can make the smartwatch more productive device.
- Stylus which can be plucked at the side to smartwatch(same as Samsung galaxy Note devices) can be a good value addition supporting the cases when there is real need of tapping on small screen with lot of tapping option available on same page.
- Android developers can start thinking of supporting small screen UX of normal apps. Social media, casual games, even productivity apps like banking, calendar, reminders, health apps can focus more on this.
In the End:-
In total this $80 wearable is worth trying if you can adjust with the limitations provided above. If you are becoming fan of large screens smart phones in fashion these days then this device is not for you.
